We need the ability to augment existing records with additional 1:M relationships - preparations, Genbank sequences, citations, etc. It is tedious having to do this one record at a time and is something the community sorely needs to effect data integration and attribution measures.
Editing in the WorkBench in Specify 7 has been significantly improved since your post. We have introduced features to augment existing records in a grid editing view.
