Are there are any purely geological, i.e. mineralogy/petrology/meteorites, classifications that are ready to be imported as taxon trees into the new Specify v7.10 ?
Hi @fedoras,
We are still working on sourcing versioned data sets for Geology collections, but I can provide the resources we have available!
We have found that the name requirements for geoscience collections are much more diverse than those for biological collections. In many cases, the provided default classifications may not meet the needs of the collection.
Minerals
We recommend exporting IMA mineral information for mineralogy data from the RRUFF Project. From here, you can include information such as the mineral name, chemistry, IMA number, chemical elements, valence elements, and much more.
Rocks
We do not have a standard hierarchy available to share, but we have data published by the British Geological Survey (BGS) we can provide upon request:
BGS Igneous.xlsx (13.5 KB)
BGS Metamorphic.xlsx (10.2 KB)
BGS Sedimentary.xlsx (22.8 KB)
Meteorites
Meteorite Classifications.xlsx (7.0 KB)
