Trees: merging two nodes from different ranks

Hello,

A user recently reported a missing functionality in Specify 7 that was previously available in Specify 6.

They attempted to merge an upper tree node into a lower one (for example, merging a species into a subspecies), but this does not seem to be allowed. Ideally, this functionality would work across all ranks and trees to facilitate tree curation.

Interestingly, the reverse operation (merging a lower node into an upper one) does work.

Would other users be interested in having this feature reinstated? Is there a reason why users should be prevented from performing this action?

Best regards,
Alexis
