What is the equivalent of System & Institution in SP-7?

Hi,
I’m a newbie to Specify forms. So if I get this right, you have 3 different kinds of xml forms… global, common and discipline specific.
In SP-6 you can import these XML forms at any level from system to user. See image below.

What is the equivalent of System & Institution in SP-7? Are they merged into “Global Resources”? This is not clear for me. See image below.

Thanks

PS. I also noticed that some identical forms elements are present in discipline, global and common XML files.

For example, under the “Collection Object” table, “CollectionObjectSub” is present in both the discipline and common xml forms. (see images below) Which has priority if they are saved in the same level (ex: Arachnids collection level). There could be possible form conflict here, no?

Discipline Collection Object:

Common Collection Object:

Furthermore, what is the recommended approach to managing forms? Should global and common xml forms be saved at the “Global Resources” level? And discipline xml forms at either the discipline or collection level?

Thanks

PS. This is weird… In SP-7 I see my 3 form sets (spider, global & common) at the arachnids collection level…

However when I go through SP-6, I only see one?

Is this normal?

Hello Heryk,

Concerning your first question,

What is the equivalent of System & Institution in SP-7? Are they merged into “Global Resources”?

Yes, Global Resources in Specify 7 acts the same as System and Institution in Specify 6. Resource files under Global Resources will be used throughout the database unless there are conflicting resources at the Collection level or lower. You can learn more about the institutional hierarchy in relation to App Resources in App Resources in Specify 7.

Secondly, it is fine to have multiple form definitions at the Collection level; however, it is not recommended to have more than one form definition containing view definitions for the same table because it is unknown which view will be used.

Regarding your form definitions from Specify 7 not appearing in Specify 6, we recommend that users log out and back in after making changes to ensure they are visible in both versions. Have you tried this?

Thanks for your help! It is much clearer for me now.

Regarding the issue where form definitions from Specify 7 are not showing up in Specify 6, despite logging out and back into both versions, the problem persists. Could this be a compatibility issue between SP-7 forms and SP-6?

It appears that moving forward with form definitions in SP-7 might be the simplest and quickest solution for me. I’m looking forward to the upcoming SP-7 form webinar on Advanced form editing with great anticipation.

Best regards.

Cheers
