Accession.DateAccessioned vs DateReceived

Hi,

The documentation in Specify v7.9.6.2 isn’t clear about the difference between Accession.DateAccessioned and DateReceived. Can anyone please explain the difference?

Is DateAccessioned the date on which the accession was added to the collection?

Cheers, Ben

Hi @Benr,

We define the fields as follows:

  • DateAccessioned captures the date of the accession.
  • DateReceived indicates when the material associated with the accession was received by the collection.

The main distinction between these two fields is that DateAccessioned is indexed. This means that if you frequently query for that date, it will be much faster.

While it is not explicitly defined, many collections use DateAccessioned as the entry date, so when the Accession record is created, while DateReceived reflects when the material was physically received.
