DNA and Tissue preparation storage

Hello!
I’m still in the process of learning how to use the program.
I work with three collections: INVERT (Voucher) , VERT (Voucher) and Tissue/DNA.

One of my questions is:
If in the Tissue/DNA collections, I have record, #01 with 1 preparation and its storage location. We take a part of the tissue, extract DNA, and upload the information to the BOLD System.
Then, we want to store the resulting DNA in another tube.
Now, in record #1, we have two preparations:

  1. the remaining tissue with its storage location, and
  2. the tube with DNA and its storage location.

Is the “Material Sample” information related to both preparations?

Thank you!

Anna

@Anna No, the material sample table functions in a 1:M relationship to preparation so each individual preparation can have independent (or many independent) material sample records. However, the relationship was intended to work with the DNA extraction AS the material sample so you could have multiple DNA extractions from a single tissue and these would be the material sample records.

Thank you @AndyBentley

Yes, I could have multiple DNA extractions from a single tissue, and each of these would correspond to a material sample record. Perfect!
so, If part of the tissue is still preserved along with the extracted DNA, there are two separate preparations:
Prep#1 Tissue-> storage
Prep#2 DNA ->storage

No, if you are using the material sample table, it is more likely you would have a single preparation for the tissue sample with multiple material samples connected to it each representing an extraction (and maybe associated Genbank or BOLD sequence).
