Export Determination History for Symbiota and GBIF

To include a history of determinations when exporting data to GBIF or Symbiota, you can use an extension to include this data in your RSS feed exports. In this instance, we will be adding the Darwin Core Identification History DwC Extension.

Core Query

As you did when initially creating the DwCA export mapping file, you will need to update the DwCA resource (in this instance, DwCA_Botany) to add the extension we are going to create.

You will need to locate the original DwCA export mapping file in your App Resources viewer and locate the line at the bottom of the mapping that contains </core.

Under this line, you will be placing the extension we will generate below:

Determination History Extension

Here is the basic template for a determination history export. You will need to create your own query in Specify 7 to generate the fields necessary to successfully export your determination history.

In this example, this collection uses preferred taxon, but this is up to your database configuration.

Making a Determination Export Query

The query that I have defined for this identification history extension is as follows:

It is based on the Collection Object table, just as my first export, and uses the GUID field to associate to the specimen records in the core export. Now I can save the query and export it for DwCA exporting purposes.

From the Queries menu, click on the :pencil2: icon to the right.

For a the field with stringId="1,9-determinations,5-determiner.agent.determiner" I know that determiner is associated with DwC term identifiedBy. I can copy the entire identifier (seen in the screenshot above) and paste it within a term="" attribute.

You can see in situations where a DwC term does not exist for a mapped field you can substitute related text in its place. For data aggregators that do not recognize the term, it will be ignored.

Now you can insert the entire above statement between the </core> and </archive> lines in the core DwC export mapping.
