What is your data source for the geo tree (especially for Canada)?

Hi @Amelie,

Thanks for your question! Currently, we source the default geography from GeoNames, which we last updated in 2020. There are plans to use move towards GADM as the data source for political boundaries, but this has not been finalized yet (GitHub #7488).

The data has been converted to a Specify-friendly tree CSV here: geonames_2025_10_08.csv
