At present the workDate field must serve for any date information related to a reference work. A specific, date formatted, field is needed for the publication date, be its resolution at the Year, Year-Month or complete date level.

It could be useful to join this convo with Add precision data fields in Accession form…
Are there other tables that could use a calendar and/or precision type date field(s)? 
At the moment I cannot speak to the need in other tables.
Also we have not been using the Accession form but would not object to supporting the similar request.
