Specify 7 for soil sample management

Hello,
I’m working with a team that is planning to use the Specify 7 application to manage a collection of soil samples. I haven’t previously worked with soil samples in Specify 7, so I’d appreciate any guidance on how best to create and configure a new database for this purpose.
Since we’re starting from scratch, would it be best to first build the initial database using Specify 6? If so, which discipline would be most appropriate for soil samples?

Additionally, because a taxonomic tree isn’t relevant in this context, is it possible—or advisable—to replace it with a structure that would be more meaningful for managing soil data in Specify 7? Do you have any suggestions? Should I create a “flat” taxonomic structure with one or two placeholder levels (e.g., “Soil” > “Organic”, “Clay”, “Sand”, etc.)?

Thanks in advance for your help!
