Specify is coming to Western Australia!
The Specify Collections Consortium (SCC) is delighted to announce that the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA), will be hosting a two day, in-person Specify software workshop on September 11-12, 2024. The workshop is free and open to anyone currently using Specify or interested in using Specify in biological collections, though a main focus will be on using Specify in herbaria. The workshop will be led by Grant Fitzsimmons (SCC Staff) and will be held in the Western Australian Herbarium at the DBCA’s Kensington Headquarters.
The workshop will cover a range of topics surrounding the computerization of biological specimen information and collection management transactions using Specify software. Demonstrations, hands-on training and tutorials will walk through best practices for cataloging, configuring and customizing Specify for specific collection requirements. The sessions will also cover printing of labels and reports as well as modern methods for data importing, cleaning, updating, querying, exporting, and publishing.
We highly recommend attendees bring a laptop to follow along using their own Specify 7 database, or use one of the Specify 7 databases we will create for the meeting.
If you are interested in attending the workshop, please contact Theresa Miller at membership@specifysoftware.org. We will provide to attendees more information on the logistics of the schedule, workshop location, and accommodation recommendations closer to the workshop date.
