How to Modify an Existing Collection Object Type

Greetings from Athens, Greece!

First and foremost, I would like to express my appreciation for your dedicated efforts in developing Specify into such a valuable and user-friendly application.

I have several questions regarding Collection Object Types (COTs) that I would greatly appreciate your assistance with:

  1. Is there a way to modify an existing COT? For example, by assigning a new taxon tree to it?

  2. I recently created a new COT in your demo environment and successfully saved a couple of pre-existing Collection Objects (COs) using this new COT. However, when I run queries, they return the COs with the previous COT values rather than the newly assigned one, despite having updated these records. How can I retrieve the COs with the newly assigned COT?

Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

Best regards,
Spyros

Hi @gnhmSD,

Greetings from Kansas! I’m happy to help clarify how Specify handles Collection Object Types and record updates.

  1. To modify an existing Collection Object Type, you can build a query on the ‘Collection Object Type’ table itself. You can edit it from the query results directly. In the future, we are planning to add an interface to make customization easier.

  2. How are you assigning the Collection Object Type? Did you add a new dropdown to the form and select the newly created type? If not, it will default to using the default type for the collection!
