Hey Specify team!
We’re very happy to have the new features in the 7.12 release. But less enthused about the new color scheme and UI updates. Is there any way to keep the original color scheme?
The following are the things we’d really like fixed or restored:
-
return the original dark grey/black sidebar theme as an option in addition to the new “dark”. The brown color used as the “dark” theme introduced in this version is inconsistent with our institution’s web style guidelines.
-
We’ve noticed that our institutional logo in the sidebar is a larger relative size compared to the Specify logo than it used to be. We preferred the relative size it was in the prior version of the UI. We’d love it if the relative size in pixels of both Specify and Institution logos were made configurable as user preferences!
- The old Sp7 “Sp” logo is used in the “collapsed” version of the sidebar. Is this intentional? Seems like it should be the new green Specify logo, just without the text, right? The old orange one looks out of place in this new theme.
- I don’t know if this is a new change or an existing problem, but when you change user preferences for UI color, the change is automatically applied without requiring “save” to commit the change, meaning any changes are not reversible without a rollback. This is behavior inconsistent with the rest of the user preferences settings and should probably be fixed.
Hi @nfshoobs,
I believe that your observation of the navigation menu image is indeed a matter of relativity.
In the comparison of v7.12 and v7.11.4 below, both images below are 192x108 pixels on my screen:
v7.12 places the image slightly lower than v7.11.4 because the new logo height is approximately 8 pixels greater than our previous one. Rest assured, the logo image itself is not being distorted or changed.
As shown above, the new Specify logo is shown in the collapsed navigation menu. Please refresh the page/clear browser cache, and ensure your instance is running v7.12.0.2 by checking About Specify 7 from within the User Tools menu.
Your requests are now discussions on GitHub:
Thanks Bronwyn,
I can confirm that the old Sp7 logo (and some other frustrations I was having with the new theme) changed with clearing the browser cache site settings of my browser.
One other thing that is still perplexing me, though, is that after clearing the browser cache the Specify logo and Specify splash screen no longer change with the Accent Colors in User Preferences (for example, Accent Color 2 and or 3 used to influence the logo colors). I don’t mind that much that the logo doesn’t change color, but I’m more trying to figure out WHY it isn’t influenced anymore.
It would be really helpful to have an illustrated guide on the forum eventually for what Accent Color and Button Color #s influence what parts of the UI.
