Webinar: Working with APIs in Specify

Working with APIs in Specify

This summer the Consortium is hosting a two‑part webinar series focused on building confidence and familiarity with APIs and how they can support collection workflows in Specify. The series is designed for members at all levels of technical experience, from those who are simply curious about APIs to those who are beginning to explore integrations and automation.

The first session, scheduled for July 16 at 3 pm CDT, will introduce the fundamentals. The presentation will cover what an API is, how it functions, and how to interact with one in a clear and approachable way. This session offers a helpful foundation for understanding how APIs fit into Specify and how they can support everyday work with collection data.

The second session, on August 20 at 3 pm CDT, will build on those basics and move into more advanced topics. The session will highlight practical examples, community‑driven projects, and ways APIs can be used to support automation, integration, and custom tools. Members interested in expanding the capabilities of their data systems or exploring new workflows may find this session especially valuable.

Both sessions are open to all SCC members and provide an opportunity to deepen technical skills and explore new possibilities within Specify.
